Our Founder

I am Layla Prince, founder of Athlete63. As a female athlete, I faced many barriers and wished I had the strategies and confidence to overcome them when I was younger.

Why are we called Athlete63?

Athlete63 commemorates the final set (6-3) of the historic “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match where Billie Jean King triumphed over Bobby Riggs on September 20, 1973. Billie Jean King, a world-renowned tennis player and a pioneering advocate for gender equality in sports, accepted Riggs' challenge to demonstrate the strength and capability of female athletes. Bobby Riggs, a 55-year-old former world No. 1, claimed he could easily defeat any woman. However, King defeated Riggs in straight sets (6-4, 6-3, 6-3). The number 63 in Athlete63 symbolizes this decisive victory, which became a catalyst for positive change, inspiring future generations of female athletes and leading to greater support and opportunities for women in sports.
